Please check the sessions you wish to attend, and enter your name, department, and email address at the bottom of the page. In addition to the Library research seminars, special sessions are available to faculty members and graduate students who would like to include a library presentation in their courses. Foreign Office Files for China, 1949-1980 (Section One: 1949-1956)Trial Period: Present until October 8, 2009 Resource Description: The British Foreign Office Files for China provide extensive information on the internal political and policy situation in China. It allows us to examine developments in China and to assess U.S., Soviet, British, European and Commonwealth relations with China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) from 1949 onwards. The topics covered in Section One: 1949-1956 include:
E-Korean Studies includes the following eleven databases of full-text journal articles and e-books: Korean studies Information Service System (KISS), KSI e-book, Electronic Journal Service DBpia, Knowledge Reference Service (KRpia), Digital Culture Art Course, KoreaA2Z, Kdatabase (a database of modern and contemporary Korean history), Kpjournal (a database of North Korea's academic science journals), Korean History & Culture Research Database, History Cultural Series, and LawnB Legal Information Service. The combined contents cover all academic disciplines. New Development of Asahi Shinbun, Kikuzo II, 聞蔵 II You will find a new section"歴史写真" after logging on to Kikuzo II. This new section of "Historical Photo Archive," which offers approximately 10,000 pieces of historical photos of the period between the 1930s and 1945, is free of charge until the end of March 2010. We will have a two-month trial period (October 1-December 1, 2009) for the PDF format of the Asahi Shinbun news from 1926 to 1946. During the trial, we will have access to additional 88,000 pages of news from the beginning of the Showa period through the Great Depression to the occupation right after the war. The database also includes about 470,000 advertisements. Please note that you can search for news from the regional versions of Asahi Shinbun from 1985 to the present, and here are the steps to follow:
New Development of JapanKnowledge+ JapanKnowledge+ has a new display image, which includes direct accesses to Jitsu 字通, Nihon kokugo daijiten 日本国語大辞典, and Nihon rekishi chimei taikei 日本歴史地名大系 on the right column. Please come see the display, A Glimpse of Architectural Design in China, outside Room E851 in the East Asian Collection. Please let me know if you want to do a display for your classes. We can work on the details. Latest News and Services in the Library The Library is conducting a vigorous promotion for the development of IUScholarWorks! IUScholarworks serves as a repository for the work of individual faculty members; it preserves, organizes, and makes freely available the works of IU scholars. Please let me know if you are interested in participating in the project.Shifting Project of the East Asian Collection There has been a book shifting project of the East Asian Collection on the 8th floor this summer. The East Asian Collection gains some additional shelving space, and the Oriental Reference Area will gain additional reading space as well. Installation of Language Bar to Public Computers in East Tower of Wells Library All of the public computers in the East Tower now have access to various languages, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, through the language tool bar in the lower right corner of the computer. Current Periodicals on 2nd Floor, GIMSS, East Tower Currently subscribed Chinese, Japanese, and Korean journals are now shelved at Government Information, Microforms and Statistical Services (GIMSS), 2nd floor, East Tower of the Wells Library. East Asian Collection Web Page Updated The Collection web page is our gateway to Internet users. In order to make our collection more visible, we have continued to review the existing web pages, added new content, and kept the links up to date. Faculty Office Visits Too tired to come to the Wells Library? A new service is designed for faculty members of East Asian studies at this beginning stage.
